1942 – Donna Pennington and Ardyth Hamilton, Seattle’s first women to deliver mail on foot. Their Capitol Hill route was about 3 miles long, not including trips back to storage boxes to pick up more mail.
Jan. 20, 1943 – This photo ran on the front page of the Seattle P-I. The original caption read: “Despite heavy drifts of snow, Oscar Pennington, Seattle postman, delivers his morning mail with the timely assistance of Joyce Baldwin, twelve, and her sled.”
